How an icon is found

    Read the site

    Every icon the home page declares: SVG icons, touch icons, the web app manifest, tiles and well-known paths.

    Prefer the brand's own mark

    Well-known brands get a curated vector logo instead of a 16-pixel favicon.

  3. 3

    Match your surface

    Icons declared for dark or light mode go to that theme, and single-colour masks are tinted to fit.

  4. 4

    Fall back gracefully

    No usable icon? Public favicon services next, then a monogram.

  5. 5

    Keep it close

    The source is stored once per domain; each size and format is cached at the edge.
